Winters in Karachi

Winters in Karachi is actually kind of a term for Karachites any such thing hasn’t been experienced by the people before, I can say this – till the last year I have seen people wearing lawn clothes into winter when inquire they say it will be chilly for a week and after that it all will be warm and sunny but everything has taken a big flip this year!

Cool breeze, shivering teeth, chilly weather- winter has invaded the people of Karachi with all its weapons and it’s not a guest anymore but a phuppi from Canada who has come to your doorsteps for spending months!

I remember1^st January 2020 was itself a cold day. After winter vacations school were reopening but due to heavy chilly winds parents didn’t send their kids to school and attendance was very less. I was coming back from university and cold breeze was crossing from both the ends of my rikshaw and I was shivering. Despite of wearing socks and sweater I was feeling cold.

The day time in winters is usually an enjoyable one. When velvety sunlight touches the body it relaxes all the stiff muscles and empowers one to complete their chores. However, nights are fully dedicated to reading! The warmth of blanket, bright light, serenity and Forty Rules Of Love – a perfect combination I can spend hours!

I think this is the last spell of winter going on and gradually we are entering to spring and after that summers are ready to give a tight hug. Every season is a gift of God and indeed these are signs of Allah existence, koi to hai jo nizam e hasti chala raha hai wohi Allah hai!

Review:

The story started with the arrival of Mr. and Mrs. Norris at Hong Kong. Mr. Norris is a diplomat and due to his posting in Hong Kong he had to leave his hometown, London. Among them their two sons: Jason and Nicholas also reached the new city with a heavy heart, since they didn’t want to leave their hometown. From airport, their house maid received them and taken them to their new house. It’s new-year time in Hong Kong particularly Dragon year. The streets and shops are decorated with dragons. Jason didn’t want to live in new country so he decided to run away from house, Nicholas also followed him. In this adventurous journey he met their new friend Chin Fei who also ran away from his house and spending a miserable life. Chi took the boys to Wan Chai where Jason met Kiata. Chin’s father is a traditional lantern maker. He told them, in Chinese every year is associated with an animal and this year is Dragon’s year. He further told them if you think positively everything and anything can come true. Next day, their parents found them with the help of Police but Jason and Nicholas insisted to speed new-year with their new friends.

The Mysterious Island

The book Mysterious Island is written by Jules Verne and published by mm publications. The book is divided into 12 chapters and each chapter kept its readers engaged from one till end.

About the writer:

Jules Verne (1828-1905) is a French writer. He is known for his adventure series. His imagination was very strong as a child he spent his time in watching ships sailing on the sea.  He left for Paris to study Law and there he discovered writing is his passion. Therefore, he neglected studies and opted to writing novels and became well-accomplished writer. The mysterious Island is a sequel to his novels: In search of Castaways and Twenty Thousand Leagues and others.

Review:

The story starts by introducing all the six main characters of the story. Cyrus Smith, Gideon Spilett, Pencroff, Neb, Harbert and Smith’s dog. Cyrus wanted to leave Richmond to do so Pencroff approached him and offered him his basket balloon. Later, the five men and a dog sat in the balloon basket after three days continuous journey, the balloon started losing its air while flying above the water. They men throw all their stuff into the water for saving their lives but unfortunately they found Cyrus missing. Hence, one by one they jumped into the sea in search of their friend. They were on Lincoln Island. There was not any human presence. They found a safe place in granite house. For food, they hunted rabbits and other animals. They made a small boat to travel. They always felt the presence of any mysterious man on the island who kept helping them in all there chores. They travelled to Tabor Island where they found Ayrton. They rescued him and brought him back to Lincoln Island. They were encountered with a pirate’s ship they injured Aryton and captured him. Later, they found the pirates lying on the ground dead. They escaped Aryton and found a hidden large cave that took them to Captain Nemo. He looked very pale and ill. He narrated his story to the men and gave them a treasure chest as a reward of their humanity. They made a boat and unfortunately, Mount Franklin started erupted lava they jumped into the sea again. Next morning, they saw a ship coming to rescue them.

I enjoyed the book. I really admire the courage and teamwork of six men. Without any modern technology they spent years in a lost island but never give up!
